Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley were married in Montecito, California on July 15, 2006. The afternoon ceremony took place at a private 10-acre Mediterranean estate in front of 100 family and friends.
The bride arrived in a vintage Rolls-Royce and walked down a white rose petal-covered aisle on the arm of her father. A string quartet played Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March.” Lavigne wore a tissue organza Vera Wang gown. Her bridesmaids wore pink Vera Wang crepe chiffon gowns. The groom and groomsmen wore black Hugo Boss suits.
The couple exchanged Christian vows under a hydrangea and rose-covered, four-post gazebo covered constructed by florist Mark’s Garden. After being pronounced husband and wife, the couple was showered with rose petals as they walked up the aisle.
Following the ceremony, guests walked through a vine-covered arbor to a swan-filled pond for cocktails. Crystal chandeliers hung from the trees, and a row of pink lanterns lit the way to the reception, held in a red organza tent. Coordinated by Mindy Weiss, the party had a Gothic theme, with red roses, red candles and a black lacquer dance floor.
The bride changed into a Chantilly lace dress by Vera Wang before joining the party. The couple shared their first dance to “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls.
The reception dinner included beef tenderloin with haricot verts, salmon with basil risotto, and wild mushroom ravioli. For dessert, Perfect Endings created a four-tier wedding cake covered in white-chocolate fondant, sugar flowers and the couple’s initials.
As favors, guests took home guitar picks inscribed with “Deryck picked Avril” and “Avril picked Deryck.”
At midnight, the newlyweds departed in a vintage Rolls-Royce to the San Ysidro Ranch. The next day, they jetted off to Italy for their honeymoon.
