Happy St. Patrick’s Day: Ireland’s Best Celebrity Weddings

Ireland is a popular destination for celebrity weddings. See which stars chose historic Irish castles for their weddings and find out why.

Ashford Castle

Some of the most extravagant celebrity weddings have taken place at castles in Ireland. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we are celebrating these fabulous affairs.

With lush green countryside and stunning venues, Ireland is a popular place for the rich and famous to wed.

“I think the big appeal really has to do with privacy,” celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss tells Forbes. “Most castles are behind gates and walls, and well off of the beaten path. Not to mention, these castles are very ornate and beautiful, too.”

Take a look back at the celebrities who chose Ireland for their nuptials:

•  Victoria and David Beckham tied the knot at Luttrellstown Castle just outside of Dublin on July 4, 1999. The reception was so lavish, 400 staff members were employed to work the event.

•  Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Smith were married at Balintubber Abbey in County Mayo in April of 2001. Following the ceremony, a “Mid-Summer Night’s Dream” themed reception was held at the 13th-century Ashford Castle.

•  Paul McCartney married Heather Mills at Castle Leslie, Co Monaghan in June of 2002. The couple invited 300 guests to the affair which cost over $3 million dollars.
