Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are celebrating seven years of marriage today. The couple were married on September 14, 2002 at St. Paul’s Covent Garden in London. Fashion forward Stefani wore a a custom-made pink and white silk faille wedding dress by John Galliano for Dior. Her wedding dress is one of the most inspirational celebrity wedding dresses of our time.
How They Met: Gwen and Gavin met in 1995 when No Doubt opened for Bush. They began a long distance relationship and dated for several years while each touring with their respective bands.
Engagement: Rossdale popped the question on New Year’s morning in 2002. According to a statement from Interscope Records, Stefani “happily accepted.” The couple planned two weddings for later in the same year so friends and family in both England and America could attend.
Wedding Day: Gwen arrived an hour late to the ceremony in a blue Rolls Royce. She walked down the aisle holding rosary beads and her grandmother’s Catholic prayer book. Following the vows, guests loaded on to double-decker buses for a reception at Home House. On their first anniversary, the couple hired the same car and driver from their wedding day to take them back to the church.
Marriage: “Our relationship is very real,” Gwen has said. “My marriage is the most important part of my life and I make sure it is a number one priority. Everything else is second. Sometimes I have to say no to things because I have to be home with him on Sunday and hang out. Relationships are work like everything else. It’s really fun work but you still have to put the effort in. If you read any of my lyrics you’ll see that. I’m like everyone else – finding my way.”
