Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are celebrating one year of marriage today. The couple tied the knot on April 30, 2008 in a beach wedding ceremony at Mariah’s home in the Bahamas. Carey wore an off-white Nile Cymlo dress that turned pale pink when she waded into the water.
The couple told wedding vendors Mariah was shooting a music video so that word of the nuptials wouldn’t leak out. They said their vows in front of 12 guests in a secret ceremony in the sand.
How They Met: The couple met one month prior to their wedding when Nick was cast as the romantic lead in Maria’s video for “Bye Bye.” The video was shot in Antigua.
Proposal Story: Nick proposed on the roof of Mariah’s New York apartment. He got down on one knee and presented her with a candy ring pop. Inside was a 17-carat emerald-cut pink diamond engagement ring by Jacob & Co. valued at $2.5 million.
On Marriage: “Being in a strong union and being there for each other is something that I’d never really experienced before,” Nick says. “So to experience it with my wife is remarkable. We’re together as one, and that’s important to me.”
First Anniversary: To celebrate their first year of marriage, the couple are hosting an anniversary party at Moon Nightclub in Las Vegas. As an anniversary gift, Nick presented Mariah with a puppy named Cha-Cha.
