December 23, 2008 marks the first wedding anniversary for Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley. The couple was married one year ago today at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Deer Valley, Utah in a glamorous winter holiday theme wedding with Christmas trees, twinkle lights and holiday decorations. Katherine wore an Oscar De Le Renta silhouette gown for the nuptials, and guests dined on traditional yuletide fare including butternut squash soup and roasted goose. Following the vows, the couple honeymooned at the Esperanza Resort in Cabo San Lucas.
How They Met: Katherine and Josh met on May 27th, 2005 when she starred in a music video for his song “Only You,” which was shot in Venice, CA.
Proposal Story: Josh found the bungalow on Venice Beach, CA where the video for “Only You” was shot and convinced the owners to let him propose to Katherine there. Josh says of the day, “Luckily, the sky was clear, the stars were shining, and she said yes!”
Wedding Rings: Katherine wears a diamond-and-sapphire eternity band designed by Ryan Ryan. Her engagement ring, also by Ryan, is a pear-shaped center stone with pave diamonds surrounding it. Half of the band on her engagement ring is from her mother’s engagement ring. Josh wears a wide platinum band that he says looks “woven.”
Highlight of the Year: After returning home from their honeymoon, the couple moved into a $2.2 million Southern Colonial-style home which they renovated together. According to Katherine, “This new house means now we are in it together. It means compromise on style, taste and how each one of us lives, how we don’t like to live and how we’re going to work it all out. It’s going to be an amazing place to start our lives together and start a family.”
Marriage Talk: Katherine says she is elated about being with Josh. “I’m with a person who not only brings enormous joy and laughter into my life but is also hugely grounded, smart, passionate and talented. Every moment I try to take too seriously, he helps me lighten up. It’s a blessing to know I can come home to somebody who cannot only make me laugh but validate who I am and respect me.
Babies On The Brain: Katherine says that she and Josh would like to have a baby in the next year. “My mother’s been saying lately that there is a family you’re born into and a family you choose. Josh is the family I am choosing. I’d like to start talking children seriously in the next year, but Josh feels more like two years, so we’ll probably do a year and a half. [laughs] I’m excited about having a big family. I’m talking five or six.”
