Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Tyrus Thomas and Jaime Collins were married on July 9, 2011.
The wedding, planned by Audi Brown of Occasions by Audi, took place in the house chamber at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol in front of 400 guests.
Jaime walked down the aisle in Vera Wang’s Diana wedding dress, a strapless gown with a draped wrap bodice, swirling frothy draped skirt and crystal belt. Her “something blue” were custom beaded Christian Louboutin heels with blue crystals.
Tyrus wore a two-button pique stitch suit by Brown and Brown with two-tone alligator shoes with a wing tip. His long time friends Garrett Temple and Glen “Big Baby” Davis served as best men.
During the ceremony, singer Cody Brandell performed “Spend My Life” and the couple took part in the jumping of the broom tradition. During the exchange of rings, the two best men swamped Jaime’s wedding band for an upgraded multi-carat engagement ring. As Tyrus placed the ring on Jaime’s finger, she was shocked to see it was a brand new ring.
Following the vows, the couple departed in a custom decorated Cinderella carriage which Tyrus purchased for Jaime as a wedding present. The Michael Foster Band performed and guests marched in a second line parade to the reception at the nearby Hilton Capitol Center.
Held in the Riverview Ballroom, the party was decorated with candles and crystals throughout. Custom Accents created mirrored table tops and chiavari chair covers were made of lace inspired silver mesh with sequin accents. Centerpieces, by Fleur du Jour, included purple hydrangeas, dendobrium orchids, calla lilies, Phalaenopsis Orchids and oriental lilies.
A constant theme throughout the wedding was an African symbol for perseverance, a tattoo which Tyrus and Jaime have on their wrists. The symbol was used in the ice sculpture, menu design, and signature drinks, a “Perseverance Martini.”
The dinner menu included filet mignon, garlic shrimp and crabcakes. For dessert, brownie bites and bananas foster beignets were served.
After the meal, Jaime changed into a short white dress and top hat with a bird cage veil. The couple made a second grand entrance into the ballroom as a fireworks display lit up the sky over the Mississippi River and guests gathered at the window to watch in awe.
DJ SupaMike of Max 94.1 spun tunes all night and guests had fun taking pictures in a photo booth.
The wedding cake, by Cake Goddess, was a four-tiered white cake with each tier wrapped in crystal to look like the belt of Jaime’s Vera Wang wedding dress. A surprise groom’s cake was also made for Tyrus, inspired by his favorite piece of Louis Vuitton luggage.
At the end of the evening, the couple turned their attention to a projection screen which replayed their love story and a same day edit of their wedding put together by videographers CV Films.
