New York, NY
Jay-Z married Beyonce Knowles at his 13,500-square foot penthouse apartment in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood. The couple exchanged vows in front of 40 friends, all of whom were asked to wear white to the ceremony, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin and Kelly Rowland.
Beyonce wore a long white gown, with low v- neck and thick straps, designed by her mother, Tina Knowles. Her hair was pulled up in a half ponytail with ringlet curls and a white flower behind her ear. Jay-Z wore a black tuxedo and was spotted smoking expensive cigars throughout the evening.
The couple chose the 4/4 wedding date for its special significance to them; both of their birthdays fall on the fourth day of the month, and they met in 2002, which adds up to four. The couple also have matching IV tattoos on their ring fingers.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the groom’s living room. Florist Amy Vongpitaka of Amy’s Orchids flew in 70,000 white dendrobium orchids from Thailand for the occasion. Guests feasted on appetizers like caviar, shrimp scampi and fried chicken, followed by a seven-course meal at tables decorated with silver candelabras. To ensure privacy, Beyonce and her family cooked much of the food themselves. The bride made her famous Creole, and Jay-Z’s grandmother cooked oxtails.
The couple shared their first dance to “Crazy in Love,” a song that marked their first collaboration together.
Later in the evening guests hit the dance floor for a set from DJ Cassidy, who spun hip-hop and oldies by artists like the Jackson 5 and Whitney Houston, until 4:30 a.m.
