Kevin Federline and Britney Spears were married in Los Angeles on September 18, 2004. Twenty-seven guests arrived for what they thought was an engagement party and were presented with a card that read, “Surprise! It is with much love that we welcome you to our wedding ceremony tonight.”
After word had leaked to the media that the original wedding was set for October 16 at Bacara Resort and Spa in Santa Barbara, the wedding was moved up a month and changed to the home of Britney’s wedding planner, Alyson Fox, of Levine Fox Events.
Britney wore a $26,000 Monique Lhuillier strapless silk gown with a hand sewn train, cathedral length veil and matching half-gloves. She also wore a Cynthia Wolff diamond lace bracelet and Sergio Rossi sandals. She carried a Swarovski crystal and lace trimmed bouquet of white roses by Mark’s Garden. Kevin wore a black tuxedo by Jeff Fox for Scott Hill. Britney’s five bridesmaids wore $3,000 red gowns by Monique Lhuillier and ruby jewelry by Cynthia Wolff.
A female minister conducted the non-denominational ceremony, during which both the bride and groom reportedly cried. At one point, Britney accidentally dropped Kevin’s ring, but the minister told her, “Don’t worry. It’s a good sign.” As the couple were pronounced husband and wife, guests tossed red rose petals as they walked up the aisle.
Britney changed into a lace micro-mini Monique Lhuillier dress for the backyard reception. A tent was erected and decorated with fuschia and red roses, bright pink hydrangeas and hundreds of candles. The couple shared their first dance to “Lights” by Journey. Guests toasted with pink champagne.
A buffet of southern food was provided by Catering by Field and included fried chicken fingers, crab cakes, sweet and spicy ribs, and mashed potatoes. Sam Godfrey of Perfect Endings created a white chocolate butter cake for dessert, topped with edible pearls and mounted on a pedestal of roses.
As a favor, each guest received a photo frame, key chain and a candle from Niven Morgan.
Later in the evening, the newlyweds and their bridal party changed into matching team sweats, labeled “Maids” for the girls and “Pimps” for the guys, and hit up Hollywood Club XES for champagne and dancing.
Britney and Kevin left the club to spend their wedding night in the Presidential Suite of the Hotel Bel-Air. Their room was decorated with rose petals, gardenias and candles.
As wedding gifts to each other, Britney presented Kevin with a limited edition Dubey and Schaldenbrand watch engraved with the inscription “Love, B.” Kevin gave Britney a Lizzie Scheck infinity necklace with baby pink pearls that he co-designed.
The couple honeymooned at the private Turtle Island in Fiji.
