Singer Rufus Wainwright is engaged to longtime partner Jorn Weisbrodt.
“I think it’s important to legalize our relationship, because, otherwise, he always feels a little “lesser-than,” you know?,” Wainwright tells Vanity Fair. “It’s hard when you’re a celebrity and your significant other isn’t.”
Wainwright says he recently proposed over an Indian meal in London.
“I was very nonchalant, like, “Maybe we should get married. Will you marry me?,” he explains. “The next day I played the Royal Albert Hall in London and announced it on stage. We went, that day, to Tiffany, on Sloan Square. And Jörn and I bought these rings for each other.”
The couple are planning to tie the knot in Weisbrodt’s native Germany where gay marriage is legal.
