Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were married at the Clayoquot Wilderness Retreat in Tofino, British Columbia on September 27, 2008.
The private and intimate wedding was attended by a small number of family and friends who flew to Canada from all over the country. The group included Scarlett’s mother, Melanie Johansson, and her brothers Adrian and Hunter, along with Ryan’s parents and four brothers.
The groom, who grew up in the area, had spent time in Tofino in the past and enjoyed the retreat for its beauty and seclusion. The venue was also chosen it for its privacy. The couple rented out the entire resort and made a request that the phone lines be turned off during their wedding weekend.
The wedding party and their guests were transported via chartered float plane from downtown Vancouver to the eco-friendly Clayoquot Retreat on the Bedwell River.
After arriving Friday afternoon, guests enjoyed a weekend full of outdoor activities including horseback riding, fishing and hiking. Evenings were spent camping out in luxury tents along the river.
The wedding ceremony took place just after sundown inside the retreat’s long house. The quiet exchange of vows was followed by a seated dinner.
The next day, the wedding guests left the Tofino area, while the couple stayed behind for a quiet honeymoon on Vancouver Island.
