When Solange Knowles married Alan Ferguson in New Orleans in November, 2014, the entire wedding party, including her sister, Beyonce, had the time of their lives dancing in the street in a second line parade. Everyone waved their hands in the air and celebrated for several blocks as they followed a brass band through the French Quarter.
This second line tradition is a century old and used in many New Orleans weddings. The parade signifies the start of a new beginning of life for the bride and groom. Following their vows at Montegut House, Candice Accola and Joe King took to the street for a second line parade in the French Quarter where they twirled parasols.
Although her wedding was in New York City, actress Piper Perabo had a brass New Orleans style band walk the streets from the ceremony at the Merchant’s House Museum.
Solange Knowles was married at Marigny Opera House. Her sister, Beyonce, was among the guests who danced in the second line parade.
“Percy Jackson” star Jake Abel married Allie Wood at Hermann-Grima and Gallier Historic Houses in New Orleans. The bride and groom twirled umbrellas in the air as they walked thru the French Quarter accompanied by a brass band.
Amber Stevens and Andrew West were married in a winter wedding in Los Angeles. But at the reception, Amber and her dad twirled parasols and led everything in a New Orleans style second line.
